"Quality Education vs. Education as Preparation for Tests: New Directions of Educational Reform in China”

by

Dr. Shutao Chen, President

Harbin Normal University

CSUN’s Sister University in China

As American schools are moving fast towards standards-based and test-driven reform in the beginning of the 21st Century, the Chinese schools are moving away from such emphasis in the past in order to develop “quality education”— education that cultivates the moral character and develops students in all-round ways.  Lessons can be drawn from the Chinese experiences to avoid downfalls in American school reform.
