Part XI
Family Visiting

Application Processes and Procedures

During the period of your studying at CSUN with valid visa, your family (your spouse
and children) may come to the U.S. to visit you according to the American law. They
need to go to the American Consulate in China to apply for J-2 or B-2 visa. The
application process is the same as yours that I have already mentioned in part 1. You
must prepare some additional materials as the following for your family when they go to
the American Consulate for an interview.

Certificate from CSUN
You need a certificate from CSUN to show you are really studying at CSUN now and the
relationship between your family and you.

IAP-66 Form for Your Family
You may ask CSUN to apply IAP-66 form for your family.

Statement of Your Deposit in Bank
Obviously, enough deposit in bank will be very helpful for your family to pass the
interview and get the visa.

* In addition, you have to make a confirmation that the U.S. Immigration and
Naturalization Services (INS) can find all the data about you via their computers.
Otherwise, your family may be refused.

Studying ESL in Local Schools

Perhaps your family or you think it is necessary to improve your English level. If so, I
suggest you study ESL (English as a Second Language) courses in local schools. I think
ESL is very helpful for you to master the Basic English skills. Usually, there are 6 levels
in ESL as the following (from low to high): Beginning Low, Beginning High,
Intermediate Low, Intermediate High/A, Intermediate High/B, and Advanced Low. The
admissions officer will test your English level first, and then suggest what ESL level you
should take.

ESL courses are taught in any adult schools. What's more, there is no tuition for ESL
because of the American government's financial support. You only need to pay $1 for the
whole year's study. The following are the two adult schools near Northridge.
